The glorious walled garden cafe serving the best pizza in Somerset

It’s that time of year when we start thinking about sitting in cafes, farm shops and beautiful gardens.

The spring sunshine of the past few weeks has really whetted our appetites for some summer activities.

And what better place to find this than in the glorious county of Somerset?

We are so lucky to have some of the most beautiful villages in Somerset, but one village in particular stands out.

Mells really is a very special place, lovely cottages, great pub, tithe barn and it has a lovely atmosphere.

The Walled Garden has been around for 12 years and is not only a great café with a pizza oven, it also supports the local community, by organizing gardening workshops and the like for people who are alone or isolated in the village or elsewhere.

They also have activities for people with dementia.

It’s really a nice project and a real lifeline for some people living alone in the countryside.

The cafe and gardens are really beautiful.

Tables dotted among flowers and plants, incredible dishes made from fresh ingredients in the gardens and a pizza oven serving excellent homemade wood-fired pizzas.

The cakes are also delicious and the cafe offers vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options.

There are lovely walks in the village so you can take a leisurely stroll before lunch.

The Walled Garden holds gardening and other workshops throughout the summer and is a great place to meet like-minded people.

Workshops must be booked here and they take place in the beautiful surroundings of this amazing nursery, garden and cafe.

We are lucky to have a place like this on our doorstep.

The Walled Garden Cafe is open Wednesday through Sunday, with last orders at 4 p.m.
