San Francisco restaurant is among the top 10 fine dining restaurants in the United States



SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) – Succeeding the past year and a half is reason enough to treat yourself to great meals, and according to Tripadvisor, San Francisco is home to one of the best fine dining restaurants.

Kokkari Estiatorio, a few blocks from the Ferry Building along the Embarcadero, is not only the best upscale in town, but ranks in the top 10 in all of the United States, according to Tripadvisor.

The restaurant at 200 Jackson Street is a modern take on classic Greek cuisine.

“While Greece is a country of very diverse landscapes and widely dispersed archipelagos, there is a palette of uniquely Greek flavors, a collection of ingredients and preparations, which define what we do at Kokkari,” the website says. of the restaurant.

Among them, generous olive oil in all the savory dishes of Kokkari; tomatoes, lemons, feta cheese and aromatic spices.

This list came as a pleasant surprise for longtime managing partner Paul Kirby, mainly because he hadn’t realized that there had been enough people at the restaurant in the past year to leave comments.

But he could identify a specific issue that every other restaurant has faced and that Kokkari is doing well: understaffing.

“We’ve made a real conscious effort,” Kirby said, to keep enough staff on hand so Kokkari customers don’t wait 30 minutes for their order, or other issues that come with less help.

In fact, other than state and federal COVID-19 safety regulations, the dining experience in Kokkari has been essentially the same, Kirby said.

He mentioned that people who went out for a meal during the pandemic wanted to experience more than what they felt when stuck inside. “We didn’t want people going out for a sterile and overly sensitive dining experience,” he said.

Kirby has been running the restaurant for two decades now, which has a sister location in Palo Alto called Evvia Estiatorio.

People closer to this place can have a similar tasting and dining experience – Kirby said both places are equally busy – but they differ in their daily specials and the influence of each executive chef.

Among the draws is Kirby’s favorite dish, the grilled octopus. It contains the essential Greek ingredients that the chefs of Kokkari put in most of the dishes on the menu; lemon juice, oregano and olive oil. He said they kept it simple and made sure it was tender.

Tripadvisor said they made the list in part based on the quality and quantity of traveler reviews and ratings on their website collected from January 1, 2020 through April 30, 2021, as well as “a additional editorial process “that the company did not disclose further.

No other Californian restaurant is in the top 10 for gastronomy.
