There are certain meals that bring back old memories. One of them is a minced steak drizzled with A1 sauce. Growing up it was considered a special meal at home and coming back to Doc’s Steakhouse they were a common order for their affordability. It was a meal I had been craving for a while. I decided to pass red coffee in Haysville, KS to feed my nostalgia.

Red’s Cafe is a restaurant I haven’t been to in over a decade. Popped in during lunch and certainly glad I did. My meal started with an unsweetened iced tea, but not just any small cup. It was a gigantic cup that also served as a workout for my left arm.
My burger came with a free side salad. Nothing special here; just a basic salad with a side of ranch.
The real treat came when my burger arrived with a roll, green beans, mashed potatoes with brown gravy (because brown gravy is the best) and a brand new bottle of A1 gravy.
Listen, I get it, A1 is nothing out of the ordinary and it’s taboo when it comes to steak. But 1.) I didn’t want to fancy it, and 2.) It was a burger and 3.) I wanted the meal to be as less candlelight as possible. It ticked every box.
Everything was delicious and exactly what I wanted. The brown gravy paired perfectly with the canned mashed potatoes (which I tasted). And I may have gone through an entire bottle of A1 dressing. It wasn’t a 5 star meal, but it was enough stars to make me happy.
And the food aside, the service was fantastic. It had this real restaurant and small town feel.
Next time I come back I will try their breakfast as I have never had it before.
