Reporter Food: Rainforest Cafe in Auburn Hills
Auburn Hills, MI – Dining at the Rainforest Cafe, located in the Great Lakes Crossing Mall in Auburn Hills, is an experience for kids and young adults. A friend and I went for my birthday and it was so much fun looking at the thousands of details that went into creating an Amazonian style creative space.
With artificial greenery and tropical plants draped overhead, and animated animals around the perimeter, guests are immersed in the ambience of the jungle. The sounds of the rainforest add to the ambiance. Every half hour, the restaurant comes alive, with gorillas. elephants and tigers moving in their places, a fine mist in the air, flashes of light and the sound of thunder. In one section, visitors can sit under the stars, with a sparkling moonlit sky and electronic shooting stars to add to the effect. In the lobby, there is a room full of goodies like toys, games, clothes, and stuffed animals. And the entrance to the dining room is adorned with a giant aquarium.
The food was excellent too. I devoured an order of Mojo Bones – half a rack of St. Louis style pork ribs with a steaming Mojo barbecue sauce served with fries and a creamy coleslaw. I washed it all down with a tasty dragon berry mule made with Bacardi Dragon Berry rum, St-Germain elderflower liqueur, strawberry puree, fresh lime juice and beer. with ginger. My friend ordered the fish tacos made with blackened fish, ranch jalapeño, red cabbage, citrus vinaigrette and pico de gallo served with a side of Black beans. They also ordered a side of mashed potatoes.
It was a great meal with a fun, mundane atmosphere that I would definitely recommend. Rainforest Cafe is located inside the Great Lakes Crossing Shopping Center in 4310 Baldwin Road. Check out their menu options and fun freebies at www.rainforest.cafe.com.
